Oscar & His Inspirations

Oscar is a first-generation second-year undergraduate technical theatre production major with a concentration in stage management at Texas State University, deep in the heart of the Hill Country!  He comes from a single-parent Viet household raised in southwest Houston where the value of post-high school and higher secondary education was held extremely high.

Throughout Oscar's event management career, he has been fortunate enough to be allowed amazing experiences beginning in 2019! It all started with his affiliation with the International Thespian Society which broaden his spectrum from just lighting design (which was his competition piece for his first year at the Texas State Thespian Festival 2018) to concentrating on stage management. His career begin lining up after stage-managing his High School Production of Little Shop of Horrors which was also brought to the Texas State Thespian Festival and received a perfect score! Oscar has advanced to nationals all 3 times during his active membership with the international thespian society.

Now, in college, pursuing his BFA, Oscar has not let the sky be his limit. He has explored event management which he finds very similar to stage management but just outside of the theater. Athletic operations and company management is something he has his eye open for as a possible career field post-college. Through the gracious connections made so far during his educational career, he has successfully assisted and provided on-site operations with these traveling production companies and university-affiliated events either at the Student Center or at one of Texas State's Athletic Facilities.

Having these privileges to work these high-profile events have allowed Oscar to facilitate events with distinguished figures in attendance such as Beto O'Rouke or then University President, President Denise Trauth. As Oscar discovers new opportunities, his long-term goals are to join the operations team with the NFL while producing and stage managing shows on the side. Oscar is constantly seeking new opportunities and connections during this time. Mentorship and guidance are something he values the most during the learning process.
